Six officers will be remembered, including 2nd Lt. Frank Stecco who was killed in the waters of the Pohick Bay in 2008 during a training exercise, and Detective Vicky Armel and Master Police Officer Michael Garbarino who were both killed when a gunman opened fire on a police station in the county’s Sully District in 2006.
The memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden at the Massey Building at 4100 Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax.
Ft. Belvoir closed its Tulley Gate at Richmond Highway (U.S. 1), the main entrance to the base, for dedication ceremony for Army Staff Sgt. Jon Linde, who was killed in the line of duty in 2007.
A visitor’s center at the main gate is being named after Linde.
Lorton, Va. –– Police have made an arrest after a woman was killed in a car crash in February.
The gate is scheduled to close between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. Thursday, officials say.
Vehicles without official Defense Department decals should enter through the Pence Gate, located one mile north of the intersection of Richmond Highway (U.S. 1) and Belvoir Road.
