Despite the massive show of force used last night during raids on two homes on Bremerton Drive, federal authorities say the police action was prompted by an ongoing investigation.
Sources tell PotomacLocal.com that investigation stretches far beyond Dale City.
Authorities at 8 p.m. Tuesday were called to Walmart on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) in North Stafford for a report of a burglary.
A manager at the store told sheriff’s deputies two men had taken a laptop from the store, so deputies put a look out for the men.
Witnesses about 11:50 p.m. told PotomacLocal.com they heard gunshots fired when the FBI raided the homes on Bremerton Drive in Dale City.
Witnesses also said they saw flash bombs used inside at least one of the homes.
A Stafford sheriff’s deputy was called last night to the Clarion Inn on U.S. 17 in south Stafford for a report of an attempted robbery.
The victim told the responding deputy a man walked into the hotel and asked how much it would cost to rent a room for the night, and then asked for directions to the bathroom, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
It happened at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday in the 12200 block of Cotton Mill Drive in Lake Ridge, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
Afterward, the victim ran home and police were called.
One of those cases the suspect is linked to, believed to be the most recent case, happened in Dale City on Halloween night 2009.
Police say Aaron H. Thomas, now 39, approached three female teenagers while they were walking home from a night of trick-or-treating.
Four juveniles have been charged in connection to the Feb. 19 fire set at the Levelle Dupelle Community Park in the 6800 block of Newington Road.
All four have been charged with destruction of property, and two teens face additional charges of vehicle tampering, police said.
Rental records show 49-year-old Aaron H. Thomas lived on Bonita Court, off Brooke Drive in the Birchdale section of Dale City from 2000 until 2007.
Records also show he attended school in Prince Georges County, and The Washington Post reported Friday Thomas still has family who live in the Berryville, Va. area.
