Police say someone broke into the high school on Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge between 1:25 and 2:30 a.m. Saturday and sprayed fire extinguishers, poor liquids on floors and glued coins to door locks.
On Thursday, police say they’ve arrested the culprits behind the vandalism.
Stafford County, Va. –– Sheriff Charles E. Jett wants more deputies on the streets to engage in community policing. To do that, he’ll need at least seven new deputies.
The Stafford County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved his request to seek grant funding for the new deputies.
Dale City, Va. –– One man is charged with assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop.
Marshall Mitchell, 34, was killed when he was riding in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling south on Benchmark Road, near Mine Road.
The SUV ran off the right side of the road, and Mitchell was ejected when the driver crossed over the left side of the road and over corrected, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler.
Police say a man walked into a Union Bank and Trust on Morris Road in Spotsylvania County at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The man handed the teller a note and asked for money, which the teller provided to the man.
With cash in hand, the robber runs from the bank and enters a silver car with Maryland tags, and along with another occupant in the car speeds away, said Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Davis.
Fire and rescue crews at 1:06 a.m. were called to a home in the 1700 block of Averet Street, off Blackburn Road, and found a resident dousing the fire with a garden hose.
Damage to the home is estimated to be at $20,000, and no one was injured, said Prince William fire and rescue spokeswoman Kim Hylander.
Police say the 10 and 12-year-old boys were assaulted at 12:06 p.m. Friday while they were on the bus parked at Independent Hill School at 14800 Joplin Road, police said.
The driver resigned after four years on the job, said Prince William County Public Schools spokesman Ken Blackstone.
About 9 p.m. Friday, Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called to a CVS Pharmacy on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) by an employee who said he had fake order for a prescription.
A call from the pharmacy to the doctor’s office listed on the order also revealed the order was fake, and that’s when deputies posted outside the pharmacy and waited for the suspect to return, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Now five men — four of them from Woodbridge — are now in custody.
Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called at 1:20 p.m. to an apartment complex on Kendrick Court in the England Run area, near the England Run Branch of the Central Rappahannock Library, after a man had barricaded himself and an infant in a bathroom.
