Prince William fire and rescue just sent us details on a house fire that broke out at a home in Bristow.

On Tuesday, November 1st, at 11:39 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a single family home located in the 12000 block of Vantage Point Court in Bristow.|

Upon arriving, fire and rescue crews observed smoke showing from the second floor bedroom. As firefighters made entry, they began suppression and extinguishment of the fire that had originated in an electrical outlet and had extended to clothing and furniture
adjacent to the outlet. Firefighters checked for further extension throughout the home; no further extension was found.

Two adults, home at the time of the fire, were alerted of the fire by the sounding of the smoke alarm. Upon discovering the fire, one resident attempted to fight the fire before fire and rescue services arrived. Both residents were treated for smoke inhalation at a
local medical facility.

From Prince William police:

Attempted Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On October 24 at 5:54PM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 14700 block of Deming Dr in Gainesville (20155) to investigate an initial report of a domestic. When the officers arrived, they made contact with the victim, a 73-year-old man of Gainesville. The victim reported to police that a family member, identified as the accused, pushed him before forcibly taking his car keys and leaving the residence. Officers made contact with the accused sitting in the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. One of the officers opened the driver’s side door and asked the accused to exit the vehicle. At that point, the accused put the vehicle in reverse, striking the officer and pinning him between the vehicle door and a sign. The officer was eventually able to move away from the vehicle, at which point, the accused continued to reverse and struck the initial victim. The accused then proceeded to flee and exited the complex parking lot. A responding officer stopped the vehicle in the area of McGraws Corner where the accused was taken into custody after initially refusing to exit the vehicle. While speaking to the accused, officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Delanyo Kwaku APPIAH, was arrested. The initial victim sustained a minor injury to his leg. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

Submitted by the Virginia Lottery:

It was the day after the July 22 Mega Millions drawing, and Kevin Young was online checking the winning numbers. If the Bristow man had looked carefully, he would have seen he’d matched all six numbers, but that didn’t immediately happen.

Fortunately, he went back and rechecked. That’s when the retired engineer realized all six of the numbers on his ticket matched.

After seven years in business, and having to turn away hundreds of tourists due to space limitations, the Manassas Junction B&B is expanding.

Owners Mark and Ann Hempen plan to rehabilitate an existing outbuilding on the property into a 450-square-foot cottage suite for the Bed and Breakfast. The addition will provide a third “room” for guests; currently, two rooms are available for rent in the 2,700 square foot main house. As a long time residents of the City, the Hempen’s hope the addition will encourage additional tourists “to enjoy and be enriched by the history, culture, and friendliness of Manassas.”

Located in Historic Downtown Manassas, the Queen Anne, Eastlake style Victorian home was originally built in 1902. Completely restored, and furnished with period antiques, this cozy bed and breakfast is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing get-a-way weekend or to accommodate out of town guests.

The owners were able to take advantage of the City’s Arts and Tourism incentive program to help offset the costs of the expansion.
