Crews will close a portion of the highway Sunday from sunrise until 11 a.m. 10 o’clock in the morning to remove old powerlines that hang over the road.

DUMFRIES — The groundbreaking ceremony for “Potomac Shores” Middle School took place today. Local elected officials joined School Board members and Superintendent Dr. Steve Walts for the ceremony.
The school, which will be officially named in the coming months, is set to open in the fall of 2021.
DUMFRIES – Republican voters chose Doug Taggart to be their nominee for Potomac District Supervisor. Taggart won the May 4 Firehouse Primary to become the Republican nominee for this November’s election to represent the Potomac District on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

I intend to run a positive campaign focused on economic development, transportation challenges, schools, public safety and other issues that are important to families, individuals, and businesses in our region,” Taggart said.
DUMFRIES — The Town of Dumfries is continuing its commitment to ensuring a safe and clean Quantico Creek.
Last month, over 75 volunteers attended an annual Quantico Creek Clean Up event. The volunteers collected over 470 pounds of trash, including 38 tires.
DUMFRIES — The Prince William County Service Authority will begin sewer main rehabilitation work in the vicinity of Duke and Washington Streets in Dumfries on Monday, May 6.
The project should take six weeks to complete. Because this rehabilitation work does not involve digging up the street (trenchless), there will be little to no effect on traffic in this area.
DUMFRIES — Police are investigating an attempted break-in at Croppers Towing and Tires in Dumfries.
Police say officers were called at 9:11 p.m to the business at 17735 Farley Blvd in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a burglary-in-progress. The business owner reported to police that he was working at the location after hours when a noise was heard coming from the rear garage door.
DUMFRIES — The first annual Dumfries Mayor’s Ball was a success.
The event hosted by Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood supported education, and raised a total of $40,000 in college scholarship funds for area students pursuing business administration or information technology degrees from IGLOBAL University in Vienna, or a degree in the hospitality management, business administration, healthcare administration, or cybersecurity from any Stratford University campus in Virginia.

She had one hand on the wheel and the other holding a cell phone. She was on the phone with Prince William County’s 911 center, where a dispatcher told her to do anything she could to get around the stalled traffic.
DUMFRIES — Stafford County’s newest resident was born on the floor of a fire station in Dumfries.
Kasey Lynnett Smith, 28, went into labor on Thursday, April 18. She was in a car with her mother, who was driving her to Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge to deliver the child. Senatra, she said, is “where my doctors are.”
Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke made a campaign stop at El Paso Mexican Grill in Dumfries Wednesday, where he talked to a group of Democratic activists and about 100 diners on issues ranging from racism and Social Security to reversing President Trump’s ban on transgender troops.
