In an about-face, the Dumfries Town Council voted to approve a conditional use permit clearing the way for a new gaming parlor to open in the town.

The Town Council voted 5-3 Tuesday night in favor of allowing the Rosie’s, a pari-mutuel off-track betting parlor, to open in Triangle Shopping Center, located in the heart of town.


Prince William police press release | On January 16, the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Potomac Middle School, located at 3130 Panther Pride Dr. in Dumfries (22026), was notified of an alleged assault by a teacher against a student that was reported to have occurred earlier that day.

The investigation revealed that a verbal altercation occurred between the teacher and the student over a confiscated cell phone.

The effort to bring gambling to Dumfries is dead in the water.

The Town Council voted 4-3 to deny a conditional use permit that would have allowed an 18,000 square-foot Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, an off-track pari-mutuel betting parlor, in the Triangle Shopping Center at the corner of Route 1 and Graham Park Road.

Hear ye, hear ye, after 40 years Gary West is hanging up his bell and revolutionary war outfit and retiring at the Dumfries town crier.

No more ringing the bell, marching in the Christmas Parade and being the man with the voice around the Town of Dumfries. He’s a long-time resident of the town, and after turning 80, it was time for someone else to take on the duty.


Newly elected Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey told us who will be working in her office, helping her to manage constituent issues. A press release states:
