Bailey to rename Dumfries street after African-American settlement

A road will be renamed for an African-American settlement that was founded near Dumfries 200 years ago.

Mine Road in Dumfries will be renamed Batestown Road at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19. A celebration will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to commemorate the event. The event will take place in Merchant Park in Dumfries, near the historic Weems-Botts House.

Newest school at Potomac Shores to foster collaborative learning for in-person, virtual students

The newest middle school in Prince William County will serve to bridge the gap between in-person learners and those who excel at learning virtually at home.

Potomac Shores Middle School, at 17851 Woods View Drive near Dumfries, is the second new school to be built in the neighborhood that bears the same name. The three-story, nearly 200-square-foot, $65 million school building will open in September.
