MOM WALKS FREE: Prosecutors dump murder charges against mom who shot husband after 5-hour tape backs self-defense

The Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office dropped the remaining charges against Latoya Crabbe on Friday, ending the prosecution in the October 2024 shooting death of her estranged husband, Curtis Crabbe.

In a statement released this afternoon, the office said prosecutors and investigators from the Manassas City Police Department recently accessed a previously unexamined five-hour audio recording recovered from a digital device seized during the investigation. The recording captured conversations and events immediately leading up to the shooting.

Manassas Mother Indicted for First-Degree Murder After Initial Charges Dismissed

A Manassas mother of three, LaToya Crabbe, has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge for the October 21, 2024, shooting death of her husband, Curtis Crabbe. This marks the second time she has been indicted, following the dismissal of an earlier indictment due to prosecutorial unpreparedness.

“Mommy! Mommy! I Missed You!” – Latoya Crabbe’s Tearful Reunion with Her Children Four Months After Being Jailed

Latoya Crabbe, the Manasas woman accused of shooting and killing her estranged husband, Curtis Crabbed,  was released from jail on Friday, February 21, 2025. At the county jail, she had an emotional reunion with her mother, Marilyn Martin, who patiently waited for officials to release her from the lockup she’d been in since being charged on October 21, 2024. 

A short time later, at home, Crabbe waited anxiously for her three children, whom she had not seen in four months, to come home from school. “I’m relieved to be back home, but I’m still anxious about the pending trial,” she said. “The most important thing for me is to hug and kiss my babies right now.”

Defense Slams Prosecutors for ‘Gross’ Delay in Latoya Crabbe Murder Case

Prince William County Assistant prosecutor D. Burke Walker told Circuit Court Judge Angela Horan that his office would file a motion on the first day of trial not to prosecute Latoya Crabbe on her 2nd-degree murder charge but instead will move to indict her on 1st-degree murder charge.

HOMICIDE: Lt. Cmdr. Crabbe’s Bond Denied; Defense Argues Self-Defense in Husband’s Killing

On October 29, a Prince William Circuit Court judge denied an appeal for bail for Dr. Latoya Crabbe, who stands accused of second-degree murder in the shooting of her husband, Curtis Crabbe Jr.

Prosecutors allege that Crabbe admitted to the October 21 shooting. Her attorney, David Daughtery, maintains it was an act of self-defense. With Judge Kimberly A. Irving’s ruling, Crabbe will remain in the Prince William County jail without bond.
