WOODBRIDGE — Today, Wednesday, January 17th, 2018, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center officially unveiled a $2.6 million renovation of its Emergency Department.
Surrounded by doctors, nurses, members of the team and representatives from Prince William County’s EMS, hospital President Kathie Johnson helped cut the ribbon and usher in this new generation of emergency care at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. The redesign and renovation of the 21,000-square-foot space features a revamp of patient rooms and storage areas, creating a clean, sleek, inviting space supporting streamlined services and exemplary patient care.
“No one likes to be given bad news, and a diagnosis of dementia is devastating. How wonderful it would be though if the bad news and negative language stopped at that point.”
So begins a short article by Wendy Mitchell, who is living with dementia. Wendy says the manner in which care providers communicate can have a profound effect on a patient’s ability to cope with a chronic medical condition.

The CHW volunteer program aims at improving health in the community by facilitating access to resources and providing health education. Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is pleased to introduce the Foot & Ankle Program at Sentara.
The Program partners highly skilled physicians with state-of-the-art procedures, so patients will have a pathway to receive the right care for their foot and ankle health concerns, all while staying close to home for treatment.
In observance of Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, ACTS will hold a Memorial Vigil to remember those homeless who were lost this year, along with those who sought permanent housing. The vigil will be held December 21, 5:00pm at the ACTS Beverly Warren Shelter, 17866 Main Street, Dumfries 22026. All are welcome to attend; light refreshments will be served after the service. · The busy staff at the SERVE Family Shelter is still in search of volunteer groups who can provide a hot, nutritious meal to their residents over the holidays. Open meals still needing groups are: Dinner Dec. 31, Brunch & Dinner Jan. 1 and Dinner Jan. 2. Volunteers must be at least 16. Meals can be prepared either in the shelter’s kitchen or fixed off-site and transported to SERVE. It’s a great way to support families experiencing homelessness by providing the comfort and warmth of a home-cooked meal during the holidays!
