WOODBRIDGE, Va. — As the back-to-school time approaches children start to feel their free summer days creeping to a close. At the same time, many parents see the money creeping out of their wallets.
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — The school day will be longer for elementary school students in Stafford County next year.
The school system announced today elementary school dismissal times will be 3:40 p.m. starting in September, a full 10 minutes later than last year.
NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Not every student begins the school year with the school supplies they need to make the grade. Together we can help make a greater difference in the lives of our students. Stafford County Public Schools and Apple Federal Credit Union coordinate a school supply drive every summer to help students in need get ready for the upcoming school year.
The school system partners with Stafford County Social Services so the backpacks and school supplies are received by specific individuals identified as having financial need. All school supplies collected will be distributed to Stafford County students in need at the beginning of the school year.
A new co-enrollment agreement will allow eligible students at Germanna to take a limited number of courses at UMW while they are still enrolled at the community college. A new direct transfer agreement will allow Germanna students to transfer into UMW’s liberal studies, or BLS, degree program, said UMW spokeswoman Marty Morrison.
A ceremony marking the new agreements will take place at the University’s Dodd Auditorium at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — A retired educator and administrator with 35 years experience at Prince William County Public Schools will make a run for the School Board.
NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — School officials will hear from residents about a plan to close an elementary school that sits along one of the busiest roads in Stafford County.
The 40-year-old Anne E. Moncure Elementary School in North Stafford’s Garrisonville District sits on valuable property on Va. 610. Surrounding the school building is a shopping district, homes, and an expanding commuter parking lot.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The Prince William County School Board Wednesday night selected Woodbridge resident, Dr. Michael E. Wooten, to fill the vacant Occoquan District Seat.
Wooten was selected in a unanimous Board vote from among thirteen applicants for the post vacated by former Board Member Grant Lattin, who resigned in May. Wooten will serve on an interim basis until voters choose a long-term replacement on Election Day to serve though the end of 2015.
STAFFORD, Va — There are 2,213 new high school graduates in Stafford County following graduation ceremonies at all five high schools this weekend.
Mountain View High School graduated 431 students in its sixth graduating class. This class collectively earned over 1.7 million dollars in scholarships. The Valedictorian is Cody LaRowe Brenna Walsh. The Salutatorian is Brenna Walsh Cody LaRowe.
