MANASSAS, Va. — On Jan. 8, the Board of Directors of the Prince William County Arts Council approved its newest member: Write by the Rails, the Prince William Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — An 85-year-old structure holding back the Occoquan River so pleasure boaters can use Lake Jackson is leaking, Prince William Coles District Supervisor Marty Nohe said Tuesday during a meeting of the county’s Board of Supervisors.

Just the thought of a leaking dam has a way of making those who live near it, or downstream, feel uneasy. But officials say they are on top of the situation and have brought in a contractor to figure out why two “toe drains” at the bottom of the dam are leaking.


OCCOQUAN, Va. — A terrace, amphitheatre, even ice skating could be coming to a new park in Occoquan.

The Town Council Wednesday approved a memorandum of understanding with with Fairfax Water and Prince William County that clears the way for a new one-acre park to be built where a water treatment facility once stood at the end of Mill Street in Occoquan.

Destruction to School Property, Firearms Violation near School – On January 9th at 9:01AM, police responded to the 1500 block of Constellation Way in Woodbridge (22191) for a destruction of property. A witness reported to police that sometime between 9:00PM and 10:00PM on January 8th he saw a group of males standing on the steps near the school. He saw a young male fire what appeared to be a handgun at Fred Lynn Middle School, located at 1650 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge (22191.) Police searched the school and located a security light that appears to have been shot out, valued at around $500. There were no students at the school during the time of the incident and there were no injuries.


Area baseball fans have been promised that a new stadium for the Potomac Nationals will be a hot venue.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Chemicals used in a fire suppression device inside a kitchen at Saunders Middle School left one employee sick and after school activities canceled Wednesday.

School administrators held a planned fire drill at 1:30 p.m. and staff and students had all safely made it outside the building. But during the drill, a fire suppression system was accidentally activated inside of the cafeteria kitchen and an employee had a reaction to the fire suppressant substance, said Prince William schools spokeswoman Irene Cromer.


The final ship has come in for a chain of seafood restaurants in the area.
