We’re under a tornado watch this evening as gusty winds are expected to move across the Washington region as part of a mean line of thunderstorms moving east.

Prince William, Stafford, and jurisdictions all along Interstate 95 are under the watch. It’s part of a sea of color that showed up on a National Weather Service warning map for the area just before 7 p.m.

RICHMOND, Va. – Supporters of the so-called Boneta Bill, aimed at protecting the rights of farmers, came to Capitol Square wearing pitchfork buttons with stickers that said, “Stay out of grandma’s kitchen.” They lined the wall of a conference room where the House Agriculture Subcommittee met Monday to decide whether to recommend approval of the measure.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Nancy Marouf’s 18-year–old son, Cameron, a senior at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, will attend Norfolk State University on a full scholarship to be the football team’s punter. Being from northern Iraq, Marouf said football was an adjustment for their family as their American-born son taught them the rules of the game.

As I and my fellow legislators conclude the third week of the 2013 legislative session of the Virginia General Assembly, this past week in Richmond saw a second round of snow, but the light dusting wasn’t enough to stop the movement of bills through the House of Delegates.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The overall number of bus passengers on Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission services fell by 2 percent in 2012.

Transit officials at PRTC – which provides OmniRide commuter, OmniLink local, and Metro Direct bus services for Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park – compared ridership numbers with those logged in 2011 and found the decrease.


DUMFRIES, Va. — Eight families were displaced late Monday night after a pipe burst at an emergency shelter in Dumfries.

Fire and rescue crews, and a Prince William fire marshal were called to the ACTS Emergency Homeless Shelter on U.S. 1 about 10 a.m. Initally, crews were called to investigate a report of a smoke but they arrived to find water all over the facility’s floor and sopping wet carpets.
