DUMFRIES — Mayor Derrick Wood attended the National League of Cities Conference November 7 through 11 in Los Angeles.

“The NLC is a bipartisan organization focused on connecting officials to local government solutions,” said Wood.


WOODBRIDGE — Prince William County Parks and Recreation Commissioners will now have their compensation tied to attendance.

The county Board of Supervisors voted to withhold commissioners’ $400 monthly compensation if they don’t attend the regularly scheduled monthly meetings. The move comes after some commissioners missed multiple meetings over the past three years and still collected a paycheck.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY (Press Release) – On November 28 at 2:08PM, officers responded to the Metro PCS located at 17997 Dumfries Shopping Plaza in the Town of Dumfries (22026) to investigate a robbery. An employee reported to police that two unknown males wearing masks, one armed with a handgun, entered the store and demanded money. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the business on foot. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 searched the surrounding area for the suspects who were not located. The investigation continues.

GAINESVILLE – (Press Release) On November 27 at 11:42AM, investigators with the Crash Unit responded to Lee Hwy at Heathcote Blvd in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a fatal two vehicle crash. The initial investigation revealed that the driver of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee was attempting to make a left hand turn from northbound Lee Hwy onto Heathcote Blvd when the vehicle collided with a 2002 Peterbilt tractor with a flatbed trailer traveling on southbound Lee Hwy. The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt remained on scene and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Speed, alcohol, and drugs were not factors in this crash. No charges are pending at this time. The investigation continues.

WOODBRIDGE — A top economic development department official continues to push Prince William County leaders to buy up private land in along busy Route 1.

Jeff Kaczmarek, the outgoing county Economic Development Director, to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to do a similar deal it nearly 20 years ago, when the county spent $8.5 million on 500 acres of land on which sits Innovation Park, now home to George Mason University Science and Technology Campus, the FBI, and 2 Silos Brewing.


WOODBRIDGE — The next fire chief for the city of Austin Texas is Joel Baker, the former chief in Atlanta.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee was one of three finalists for the job. He interviewed at a public forum in Texas in late October with two other finalists, including Baker.
