Prince William County’s youngest and most vulnerable students are struggling to read.

New Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening data for the Prince William County School Division obtained exclusively by PLN show an alarming increase of students from kindergarten through third grade who need reading help. The test, required by the Virginia Department of Education to be given to children in the aforementioned grade levels, is used to identify gaps that could hinder the development of a child’s reading skills.


Coronavirus vaccines will begin being distributed in Prince William County this month.

County employees most risk of contracting the disease, which includes fire and rescue personnel, paid and volunteer healthcare workers, and senior citizens in assisted living facilities, will be first to receive the vaccines, said Prince William Health District Director Dr. Alison Ansher.

Candi King, of Prince William County, will try to do something her husband twice failed to do — win the 2nd District House seat and go to Richmond to represent Prince William and Stafford counties.

King won a firehouse primary today, besting four other Democrats to win her party’s nomination to run in a January 5 Special Election to replace the outgoing Jennifer Carroll Foy (D), who last week resigned the seat to focus on her 2021 campaign for Virginia Governor.


D.J. Jordan will once again run for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Prince William County resident, Republican, and co-author of one of the most-read posts of 2020 here on PLN addressing the defunding of police departments will run for the 31st House District, which includes portions of Prince William and Fauquier counties. The seat is currently held by Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D), who said she would not seek reelection to the seat to focus on a run for Lt. Governor, a statewide office.


Residents may once again come to the Prince William County Government Center to pay their taxes.

An employee contracted the coronavirus on Wednesday, and the tax payments office on the first floor of the government center, known as the McCoart Building, was closed to the public. The remainder of the government center remained open for business.


An area next to Prince William Forest Park could be the county’s next big development hot spot.

The Prince William County Planning Commission on Wednesday night to consider siding with county government planners to endorse the Independent Hill Small Area Plan, which aims to allow a mix of homes, retail, and office space to be built on 544 acres of land between the county landfill on Route 234, and then north up to Colgan Senior High School.
