During the upcoming Fourth of July weekend, officials plan to write summonses and place some behind bars for possessing illegal fireworks.
“On the Fourth of July weekend, fire marshals and police officers will patrol the region looking for illegal fireworks, which will be confiscated,” Prince William fire and rescue Assistant Chief Hadden Culp said. “The violator will then be charged with the offence and must appear in court. Locally, use of illegal fireworks in Virginia is a Class 1 misdemeanor, meaning a person could receive jail time of up to 1 year and a fine of up to $2,500.00.”

Winston-Salem, N.C. –– Destin Hood’s single to left field in the bottom of the 10th inning sent the Potomac Nationals to a 4-3 win over the Winston-Salem Dash on Wednesday in Woodbridge.

Those types of developments don’t fit the mold of mixed-use town center developments, like Potomac Town Center, Belmont Bay and the much talked about but yet to be developed Harbor Station.
Principi says he’s turned down a new shopping center, a drive through fast food restaurant and a new car dealership because they don’t fit his vision of a new Woodbridge, one that is built around higher densities, mass transit and open access to the Occoquan River.
Currently overlooking a U.S. Post Office on Jefferson Davis Highway, the bike shop plans to move into the nearby Aquia Park shopping and professional center.
A spokesman for the store did not return a request for comment, but we do know the new store will be smaller than its current location. Construction crews are still working on the new building and an opening date has not yet been announced.
The automobile advocacy group says gas prices nearly a $1 more than a year ago will prompt a 1.8 percent decline in the number of drivers on the road this upcoming three-day holiday weekend.
“While gas prices have eased slightly since their peak in May, the extra 80 cents per gallon drivers face will be enough to keep the number of travelers on the road from topping last year’s numbers, which were the second-highest seen in the past five years,” said Anderson. “Travel during the Independence Day holiday has shown significant variability during the past five years, as the overall economic downturn and recovery have contributed to large swings in holiday travelers.”

In the 12th, a critical P-Nats error extended the inning and set the stage for Anthony Gallas’s single into left field that lifted the K-Tribe to a 4-3 win.
A tractor trailer slammed into the rear of an SUV just as it crossed the Rappahannock River from Stafford County into Fredericksburg about 5 p.m. The force of the crash caused the SUV to collide with two other vehicles in front of it.
No one was seriously injured, but the crash closed all three southbound lanes of the highway for a brief time. That prompted police to urge drivers to take alternate routes around the crash scene as traffic backed up.
