OCCOQUAN, Va. –– A Prince William County Supervisor who is running unopposed held a campaign kickoff Sunday.

Republican Mike May said he’s made progress on the Board of County Supervisors over the past four years, and noted his vision to make Lake Ridge a more pedestrian friendly.


DUMFRIES, Va. — Virginia’s oldest, continuously chartered town has made some new hires.

A new town attorney, town planner/zoning administrator, new police officer and records management coordinator for the police department are the positions that have been filled.


Selik overpowered the Hillcats over six innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four with no walks. He allowed baserunners in five of his six innings, but induced two double plays and allowed just one runner to reach second base.

Reckless Handling of a Firearm
On July 16th at 1:58PM, police responded to the 4600 block of Whitaker Pl in Woodbridge (22193) for a call of shots fired. The investigation revealed that the accused had fired a shotgun at a neighbor’s dog as it ran onto a community parking lot. Other people were nearby but not injured. The dog was also uninjured. The accused was arrested and charged.

A man walked into Union Bank on Cambridge Street (U.S. 1) in Falmouth at 11:39 a.m. Monday, gave a teller a note that he demanded cash and that he had a gun. No gun was displayed, but the suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the bank.

Stafford sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, got the story from witnesses, and began searching the area for suspect, said sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Woodbridge, Va. — OmniLink bus riders may no longer be able to get a free bus transfer from Potomac Mills mall.

The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission is considering eliminating the last free transfer in the OmniLink system for riders of the Dumfries and Dale City OmniLink routes between the shopping mall and the PRTC Transit Center on Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge.

Fairfax County, Va. –– Prince William County’s neighborhood code enforcement chief was killed in a motorcycle crash.

William Tyler Cowherd, 45, of Annandale, was killed while riding with a female passenger on his bike and alongside another bike operated by a 50-year-old Manassas man at the intersection of Twinbrook and Braddock roads, near the main campus of George Mason University, about 7 p.m. Saturday.
