The Nationals came into the game riding a streak of 20 innings without allowing a run; that streak came to an end only just three batters into the game. After a leadoff double by the ‘Cats shortstop Andrelton Simmons, Phil Gosselin hammered an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall that put Lynchburg ahead 2-0.

Nationals starting pitcher Danny Rosenbaum settled down immediately and retired 13 of his next 14 hitters.


Police in eastern Prince William are canvassing the area helping motorists make sure their vehicles are less enticing to thieves.

Last week in Lake Ridge, brochures were distributed to several cars letting residents know the importance of locking their cars and keeping valuable items out of plain sight.


The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch from noon today until 8 p.m. Thursday. With temperatures forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s Wednesday afternoon, heat index values (what it feels like outside when the humidity is factored in with the heat) are expected between 100 and 110 degrees.

The hot weather will remain in place for the remainder of the week, with temperatures hovering in the mid 90s to 100 degrees, according to the weather service.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. –– Some public schools in Prince William County will see improvements following the sale of $47.8 million in bonds Tuesday.

Thirty new classrooms will be added to Potomac Senior High School, and six classrooms will be added to Swans Creek and Westridge elementary schools. A bus parking lot will also be added to Westridge, according to county documents.


Potomac has now won 11 of their past 15 at Pfitzner Stadium and reached the .500 mark in home games at 22-22.

The matinee affair was eerily similar to Monday night’s ballgame. Potomac’s starter Adam Olbrychowski (3-5) worked out of early trouble and out-dueled his counterpart, Lynchburg righthander David Hale(1-4). The Nationals got a big hit in the early innings, relied on a trio of bullpen arms to shut down the Hillcats and prevent them from getting a single hit in 13 tries with runners in scoring position.


The driver of a 2007 Mercedes-Benz sedan pulled into the commuter lot off Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) and clipped the bumper of a 2003 Honda that was already parked in a row of other vehicles.

The Mercedes went on to strike a 1996 Mazda pickup injuring a 20-year-old male that was sitting inside the truck, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler.


STAFFORD, Va. – –  Northern Virginia’s fight against the invasive Emerald Ash Borer continues.

The beetle, an intruder from Asia, is a threat to the area’s ash trees and has been the focus of a statewide advertising campaign urging campers to only use firewood collected from their campsite. Not moving firewood prevents the spread of the bug, state officials said.


Gov. Robert F. McDonnell is scheduled to appear at noon Thursday at the Globe and Laurel Restaurant at 3987 Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) at Boswell’s Corner in North Stafford.

Dudenhefer, a Republican, is currently the Chairman of the Stafford Board of Supervisors and is vying to represent the newly shifted 2nd House District that includes portions of Woodbridge and North Stafford.
