Dumfries, Va. — The ACTS Food Pantry in Dumfries reopened earlier than anticipated Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews found a 20×40 foot storage shed fully engulfed in flames about 2:55 a.m., at 1901 Reddy Drive. A 911 call prompted crews to rush to the scene, said Prince William fire and rescue Battalion Chief Joseph Robertson.
No injuries were reported, and officials estimate the damage to the building at $50,000. The cause and origin of the fire are still being investigated.
Quantico, Va. — There are plans to close the brig at Quantico Marine Corps Base by the end of the year, according to the Associated Press.
The facility became infamously known for housing Pfc. Bradley Manning, who is suspected of leaking U.S. military secrets which later appeared on the web.
Dumfries, Va. — This year’s Dumfries Fall Festival Extravaganza attracted more festival goers than last year’s, up from about 60 people to a whopping 2,700 attendees, said town economic development Coordinator Debi Sandlin.
The annual event was held Saturday behind Dumfries Town Hall and for the first time featured a “Dumfries Has Talent” competition, wineries and local businesses and vendors.
For the first time ever, Dumfries from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday will hold a Government Contractors / Technology Job Expo. The event, which will feature the U.S. Marine Corps, Aurora Flight Sciences and Chenega Corporation, will connect job seekers with these and other agencies.
“This is a great opportunity for the town to partner with the businesses to create more exposure, and it gives us the opportunity to tell the world we have these Fortune 500 companies right here in Dumfries,” said town economic development coordinator Debi Sandlin.
Fire and rescue crews were called to an Exxon gas station at 3514 Old Bridge Road just after midnight Friday to douse a blaze that had broken out at the car wash at that gas station.
No one was injured, and fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control within minutes of arriving on scene, said OWL VFD spokeswoman Rebecca Barnes.

Stafford, Va. — A month after a landslide swallowed their backyard and Stafford County officials condemned their homes, the O’Leary and Barnes’ families were told today that the County Board of Supervisors has approved releasing $62,000 from a developer security bond to be used to support site stabilization, remediation and repair efforts. The Board voted to approve this measure in a closed-door meetings and following legal counsel between all parties.
“We feel the County is really trying to help us,” stated Dan O’Leary, one of the homeowners. “We are thankful that this bond money can be used to help offset the costs of stabilizing our homes and to help us work towards restoration.”
