The county won the Distinguished Budget Recognition Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The group examined how county leaders stick to their outlined budget as a driver to set public policy, how well it serves as a financial plan, as well as strengths and weaknesses in communication.

Earlier this year, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors passed a $241.2 million budget that included a reduction of the number of county government employees and a decrease in real estate taxes.

Quantico, Va. — The Command Post Pub in Quantico is about to get new life Monday.

The popular Tiziano’s Italian Restaurant in Dumfries will open a second location at the old Q Town staple on Potomac Avenue and will be called Tiziano’s at the Command Post Pub. Owner Robert Aquino, 58, says he’s excited to open a new business in a place that for more than 30 years had served Marines and locals alike.


North Stafford, Va. — A composite sketch of the man police think could have tried to abduct a girl in the Garrison Woods Apartments off Onville Road in North Stafford one week ago is out.

Stafford sheriff’s authorities said the man is light skinned, possibly Hispanic, thin but muscular and had short black hair that was spiked in front. Police added the man did not have any facial hair and that he spoke with a faint accent.


E.J. Levenberry, a 16-year-old junior, was injured after a game with Potomac High School in Woodbridge. E.J. Levenberry’s father told the Post he believes a parent from the opposing team came onto the field and punched his son in the jaw.

E.J. Levenberry is one of the most sought-after high school athletes in the Washington area with multiple schools offering him scholarships, reports the Post.


Woodbridge, Va. — Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has endorsed Chris Royse, the Republican vying to represent the Woodbridge District on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.

McDonnell in a press release stated he endorsed Royse because of his desire to bring private sector jobs to the area and to keep taxes low.


Woodbridge, Va. — During a political debate this week, Prince William Chairman Corey Stewart (R, At large) said he will put more focus on widening the entirety of U.S. 1 in Woodbridge and the Dumfries area.

“We’re seeing a lot of interest, especially because of BRAC, the defense industry, the Stonebridge development that is now building another 58 acres of high-end retailers and office space… I think we are going to do that and I think the economic development of the eastern end [of Prince William County] is coming along just fine,” said Stewart.
