Dale City, Va. — A strong odor prompted the evacuation of a elementary school today.

McAuliffe Elementary School at 13540 Princedale Drive in Dale City was evacuated at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday after a strong odor was detected. Fire and rescue officials were called into investigate but apparently found nothing, as all students were returned to class within the hour, stated a Prince William County Public Schools spokeswoman.


Stafford County, Va. –– The future of a series of rural roads is being debated after a Stafford County leader moved to restrict their through-truck traffic.

Hartwood District Supervisor Gary Snellings has proposed banning through trucks from using Truslow Road between Enon and Berea Church roads, and on Enon Road between U.S. 1 and Truslow Road.


Woodbridge, Va. — A burglary in Woodbridge on Monday prompted a police SWAT team into action.

Officers were called at 1:45 p.m. to the 3300 block of Ladino Court, near Cardinal Drive, for a report of a burglary at townhome, and found a ladder set against a second floor window. Officers learned there were several firearms inside the home and then took up positions around the townhouse.


Fredericksburg.com reports the county mailed out property reassessments to residents Thursday. But county officials want you to know you can turn to the county website if you have questions about the reassessed value of properties in Stafford.

Citizens who have questions about their 2012 reassessment notices can visit the Stafford County website at staffordcountyva.gov for helpful information.


Woodbridge, Va. — Prince William police surrounded a home on Ladino Court in Woodbridge late this morning for a report of a burglary in the area.

The neighborhood sits just off Cardinal Drive, about a mile from Fannie Fitzgerald Elementary School on Benita Fitzgerald Drive. 


Construction crews will close Occoquan Road in Lake Ridge, between Old Bridge Road and Riverview Lane, from Monday to Saturday nights.

The road closure will allow townhome developer Basheer & Edgemoore to install a storm pipe, water mains, as well as sanitary water mains. The developer is building 76 townhomes in a new neighborhood that has been dubbed Potomac Crest near the intersection of Old Bridge and Occoquan roads, according to Prince William County officials.


Lake Ridge, Va. — Prince William Occoquan District Supervisor Mike May continues a series of public meetings this week as he aims to hear from voters on issues around the community.

May held his first in a series of four meetings that will all take place at various locations in Prince William County.


North Stafford, Va. — A chemistry experiment gone wrong forced he evacuation of North Stafford High School this morning.

Nine students at the school were taken to a local hospital after gas-like odor permeated through the building’s air ducts. Eight of the nine students exhibited signs of nausea and a ninth student had an unrelated medical emergency while rescue crews were on scene, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.


Unveiled on Tuesday, the baseball diamond has been regarded and is now to professional baseball standards, a new irrigation system is in place, and the pitcher’s mound and home plate area completely reconstructed.

“The field had not been rebuilt since ball park construction in 1984 and initially when built was not in compliance with major league requirements. What we now have is state of the art which will provide a superior playing surface, but more importantly one that will minimize player injury,” said Potomac Nationals owner Art Silber.
