STAFFORD COUNTY, Va — A Woodbridge man faces charges after a substance obtained during a traffic stop tested positive for cocaine.

A Stafford County law enforcement officer was driving south on U.S. 17 in south Stafford about 11:46 p.m. Sunday when he noticed two cars that made an unusually wide turn on the six-lane road. The cars then pulled on to Powell Lane and into a parking lot at the Fredericksburg Auto Auction.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Over the past weekend, I attended four Prince William area high school graduations in 24 hours. The events honored 2500 graduating Woodbridge area seniors from Woodbridge Senior High School, Gar-Field Senior High School, Forest Park High School, and Freedom High School.

STAFFORD, Va. — A new baby grand piano greets patients and visitors of Stafford Hospital.

The musical instrument sits in the lobby and was purchased by the hospital’s auxiliary staff as a method of calming and soothing those who walk into the medical center, which sits in the heart of Stafford County.

TRIANGLE, Va. — Patches of unpaved road and orange traffic barrels remain, but the ribbon has been cut heralding the official opening of a widened U.S. 1 in Triangle.

County officials and residents gathered on the corner of U.S. 1 and Joplin Road June 6 to celebrate the improved roadway.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The 1920’s-era farmhouse that has served as a temporary fire station in North Stafford since 2010 has reached the end of its life.

Because of the house’s deteriorating conditions that have lead to concerns for the safety of the fire and rescue personnel stationed there, the house at 53 Shelton Shop Road will be razed and a new modular building will be installed over the next few weeks.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Community residents are asked to dine out to support five young children who just lost their mother.

Lucinda Tucker Rivera, 42, of Woodbridge, died June 7 from complications from stage-three pancreatic cancer. The 1988 graduate of Gar-Field Senior High School developed an infection that affected her immune system that, in the end, was too large for her to overcome.

STAFFORD, Va. — It will soon be easier to obtain residential and commercial construction permits in Stafford County.

Officials this summer plan to begin construction of a new $400,000 permit office that will be built inside the county’s government center in Stafford. When it opens later this year, the Community Development Service Center will be located in a renovated space on the first floor of the government center and will bring together the planning, public works, and zoning departments. The idea: put everyone in the same office and reduce the amount of legwork in the permitting process.
