Ramunda Young, a commissioner on the local Prince William Human Rights Commission, was named Commissioner of the Year by the Virginia Association on Human Rights (VAHR).
Annually, VAHR solicits nominations from its seven member human rights organizations from around the state for the prestigious awards of Commission of the Year and Staff Member of the Year.
Cub Scout Pack 501, chartered by American Legion Post 364 brought home a 1st place award for their Minecraft themed float at the 2015 Dale City Independance Day Parade.
The float included characters from Minecraft, music and the Cub Scouts marching with the float.
On Saturday, July 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Lakeside courtyard in the Tackett’s Mill Center at 2228 Tackett’s Mill Drive in Lake Ridge, The Clearbrook Foundation again presents “Poetry and Jazz”, a free festival featuring local poets and authors reciting to the music of Common Ground, and hosted by Guy Lambert, WPGC radio personality plus surprise celebrities, refreshments, local authors, food trucks and painting station.
This year, participants will enjoy the “Poetry Circle,” (nominated poets from last year’s contest). The Lakeside is located off the corner of Old Bridge Road and Harbor Drive in Lakeridge, VA. The Clearbrook Foundation, a local non-profit, established the Clearbrook Center of the Arts at Tacketts Mill and funded the Poets Laureate positions in conjunction with local writers group Write by the Rails and the Prince William Council for the Arts.
Two northbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. Friday morning on the overpass, which is located just north of the Rappahannock River bridge at Exit 133/Falmouth.
An additional work zone will be underway tonight on I-95 northbound in the Fredericksburg area for paving. Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Friday morning, single and double lane closures will be in place on northbound I-95 between exit 126/Spotsylvania and exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg.
Prince William Republicans kicked off this year’s Community Service Initiative in March with a fashion show and luncheon to benefit the B.A.R.N Transitional Housing charity in Bristow. The Bull Run Republican Women’s Club led the effort to raise money and collect clothes for women being served at the charity. Republicans have also conducted food bank drives and clean-up projects across the County this year. In June, Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland, Occoquan Supervisor Mike May, and Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson led a 13-hour 36.5 mile “Walk For Prince William” across the County that raised 20,000 pounds of food and supply donations for County charities.
“It’s important to us that the Prince William GOP do more than just elections and campaigns,” said Prince William Republican Chairman Bill Card. “We want to also serve those in our community who are in need in a more direct way. As some of our neighbors seek to become self-sufficient, Prince William Republicans want to help by providing some support.”

The Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Performing Arts Touring Directory is intended to support Virginia performing artists and ensembles as well as increase opportunities for Virginians to experience high quality performing arts events statewide. Performing artists and ensembles apply to be listed in the Tour Directory with a set amount of funding reserved to support their touring; grants are made to the presenter, not the touring artist(s). Individuals and groups on the roster are excellent and experienced performers available to communities, schools and other venues.
Stafford is hosting musical acts through the Songfest Series on the third Sunday of each month through September. The concerts are held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Celebration Stage at Pratt Park, 120 River Road, Falmouth, VA. Admission is $10 per car.
