What was it like to be a kid in 18th century Colonial Virginia?  To have heard Patrick Henry’s famous “Give Me Liberty” speech?  Come spend five mornings with us and find out!

Historic Dumfries and the Weems-Botts Museum will help you see how a child would have dressed, used manners, played and lived in Colonial Virginia! Learn to make colonial foods and churn butter, stencil designs, do candle making,  quill pen and ink writing, make clay beads, and learn how to play and dance like you’re living in 18th century Virginia!  Join George Washington and Patrick Henry and explore the meaning of “Liberty.” Take a scavenger hunt in the oldest chartered town in Virginia, make a colonial hat or mop cap, and participate as one of the members of the “Dumfries Resolves.”

The RSVP program of Volunteer Prince William is pleased to announce that our Veterans Enhanced Transportation Service (V.E.T.S.) Program Volunteer; Mr. Bruce Wood,  has been recognized by the Cabot Creamery Cooperative as one of their Community Celebrity Awardees.

Bruce Wood joined the Volunteer Prince William-Retired Senior Volunteer Program in april of 2013.  He had recently retired retired and was looking for a volunteer opportunity, at the same time RSVP, in partnership w/ the Prince William Area Agency on Aging (PWAAA), joined forces to start the Volunteer supported, Veterans Enhanced Transportation Service (V.E.T.S.)

Forty-one Mustangs Track Club athletes have qualified for the 2015 Amateur Athletics
Union (AAU) Jr. Olympics, which will be held August 1-8 on the campus of Norfolk State University. The
athletes advanced to the national event after a strong showing at the AAU Region 5 Qualifier Meet in
Suffolk, VA June 26-28th.

When coaches Raymond Gee and Damien King completed their 2014 track season, they purposed to
make 2015 even greater. Together, the duo and their team of volunteer coaches have expanded the
reach of the club, which includes practice sites in Culpeper, Manassas and Fairfax. Although the club was
established three years ago, this is its second season competing in AAU. “I’m blessed to have such a
great coaching staff and parents that understand the dedication and hard work it takes to get to this level,”
states Gee.

Caila Chavez, 7, has been chosen as a state finalist in the Virginia National American Miss Pageant to be held Aug. 1, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston.

The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages four to 18, and have five different age divisions.

Potomac Health Foundation awarded grants to 36 programs serving residents of eastern Prince William County, Lorton, and North Stafford communities through its Howard L. Greenhouse Large Grant Program.

The Howard L. Greenhouse Large Grant Program addresses the Foundation’s mission to improve the health of the community by awarding grants to programs that strengthen access to primary health care for medically underserved residents, reduce the impact of preventable illness and disease, and support innovation around emerging health needs.

Juggler and comedian Mark Nizer presents “Juggling and So Much More!” onWednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11 a.m., and multicultural dance ensemble Footworks appears on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 at 11 a.m.

One of the greatest entertainment comedians and jugglers performing today, Mark Nizer brings original comedy, world class juggling, dance, music and technology to his craft for a unique and spellbinding performance. This juggling master keeps it all up in the air with flying household items, clubs, balls and balancing sticks. Nizer’s wild antics have landed him on MTV, HBO’s “Just for Laughs,” Arsenio Hall, Bob Hope and Other Young Comedians, Comic Strip Live and “L.A. Law.” He has brought his one-man show to The Improv, Walt Disney World, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and to countless college campuses, and opened for the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope and George Burns. “Without a doubt the hottest juggler [out there], Mark Nizer is simply incredible.” (Entertainment Magazine) 

Americans across the country are joining in on a push-up challenge that is being tracked, tagged, tweeted and posted with #DropAndGiveMe10.  Celebrities, active military, veterans and everyday citizens are taking videos of them doing push-ups and nominating more people to do the same.

As an effort to spread awareness and raise money for Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, whose mission is to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent while serving our country, the #DropAndGiveMe10 challenge honors the fallen by encouraging us all to take care of those who survived them.
