WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Leaders at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge are unclear on how to react to the landmark decision today to uphold President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law.

The healthcare organization that purchased Woodbridge’s Potomac Hospital in 2009 and changed its name to Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in April, says advances in technology and their sheer size will best position them adapt to the healthcare mandate that requires every U.S. citizen to purchase medical insurance.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Johnny Soza, 35, of Stafford, Va., has been indicted by a federal grand jury and accused of enticing a 15-year-old girl in Canada to engage in sexually explicit conduct for him online.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and John P. Torres, Special Agent in Charge for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Washington, D.C., made the announcement.

The ’99 Virginia Crushers fast pitch softball team won their second Virginia state title this past weekend by going undefeated in the 2012 American Softball Association’s (ASA) Virginia State Championship in Leesburg. The Prince William-based Crushers added this title to the Virginia NSA State Championship title they won a few weeks ago in Salem.

Prince William’s ‘Waste Place’ Under Review

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The “Too Good to Waste Place” has been scrapped – at least for now.

The Prince William County Landfill announced the temporary closure of the donation center on its campus that’s been in operation since 1991. The “Too Good to Waste Place” has been credited with reducing the amount of trash that has ended up in the landfill, as residents instead have chosen to leave, or donate, still-usable items like couches, bicycles, and lawnmowers at the site. Once left, other residents who visit the landfill can simply take what’s left behind.

Region Faces Triple-Digit Temps

It’s could feel like 110 degrees on Friday, and that’s why the National Weather Service has already issued an excessive heat watch for the region.

Drivers Hit Large Rocks on U.S. 1, Damage Cars

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Who was it that placed about 20 large rocks on the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 today? That’s what Stafford authorities want to know.

Two cars were damaged, and one of them popped a tire on its driver’s side, when they ran over the rocks while traveling on U.S. 1 north at Coal Landing Road, just south of Va. 610 in North Stafford. No one was injured.

Ground Broken for Dumfries’ Ginn Park

DUMFRIES, Va. — Officials put shovels into dirt marking the start of construction of Ginn Park in Dumfries.

The new park will sit at 3876 Graham Park Road and will be built in two phases. Phase one will include playground equipment, a basketball court, a playing field, and a gravel parking lot. While it’s unclear when construction of phase two will begin, it is said to include a community center, a community plaza and amphitheater, tennis courts, a community garden, and a paved parking lot.
