NOKESVILLE, Va. — In a rural schoolhouse, the future of Prince William County’s Rural Crescent was considered.

The crescent-shaped area of land from the Potomac River at Quantico, north through Nokesville and Haymarket, and around to Manassas National Battlefield, was designated in 1998 as a place where suburban sprawl would be limited, homes would only be built on 10-acre lots, and access to public sewage would only be permitted at new developments under certain circumstances.

What does this mean to you? The new cell site will add more comprehensive coverage to the area in general, while relieving other cell sites in the vicinity. This will provide a more robust and optimal service to students, residents and local businesses.

Aside from bragging rights, teams participated in the tourney and shootout challenge at the Boys and Girls Club in Manassas to show support for Officer Heather Munsterman, and to draw attention to a nationwide problem: texting while driving.

Virginia Sebastian Storage, who was installed as the Virginia DAR State Regent on June 30, 2013 at the 122th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.,  outlined her state project for the next three years, which will aid the George Washington Foundation, a non-profit foundation, during their campaign to construct a replica of the 1740 George Washington House at Ferry Farm. The State Regent’s Project will provide funds to underwrite a room on the first floor of the structure.

Approximately 113 acres, including the entire length of the original Washington waterfront, are under the Foundation’s stewardship. Ferry Farm was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2000. In 2008, archaeologists working at the site, located and excavated the remains of the long-sought house where George Washington was raised.

Opinion

“Pool” has two meanings in Prince William County this summer—a place to cool down; and an issue that is heating up, as residents debate the proposed addition of a countywide aquatics center to the building of the area’s 12th high school. Opening that school by September, 2016 means the School Board must decide the issue one way or the other and award building contracts by year’s end.

I strongly support the center proposal, but respect thoughtful opinions on both sides. However, I urge all concerned to ignore misinformation and personal attacks from online provocateurs who offer nothing but negativity. Let’s decide the issue based on important questions.
