Richard N. Carper, 88 of Woodbridge Virginia died on Monday March 31, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Hazel D. Carper, daughter Patricia A. Weber, sons Clayton N. Carper, Andrew A. Carper, Jonathan W. Carper, 6 Grandchildren Lisa Yates, Julie Jackson, Meredith Brunkel, Stephanie Carper-Hansen, Steven A. Carper, Morgan A. Carper, 12 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his 11 siblings.

Richard was born July 21, 1925 in Kernersville North Carolina then moved to Winston Salem where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from John W. Hanes High School before attending St. Bonaventure College in Orlean New York. Richard then enlisted in the US Army from 1941-1945 serving in WWII. He moved to Woodbridge in 1962 and began working for Safeway where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1991. Richard was very active in the community, volunteering his time at the Woodbridge Little League and Sports Club, the Boosters for Woodbridge Senior High School and was a member of the American Legion.

Maria (Mer) Elena Alexander, 58, of Woodbridge Va., passed away March 30, 2014. Maria was born on June 1, 1955 in Nyack, NY to the late Rafael A. Velez Sr. and the late Claudette Parker Velez.

Maria loved to travel, cook, bake and read, most of all she loved her family. Maria touched many lives and was loved by many; her smile would light up a room.

Waltraud “Marie” Lope, age 78, of Lake Ridge, VA, passed away on March 30, 2014. Beloved wife of 21 years to Ernest Lope who passed in 1993. Loving mother of Charles Miner (Stacy), Howard Miner, Tina Garner (Darrell), and Ernie Lope, Jr,. Cherished grandmother of Kyle Miner, Jesse Miner and Nicholas Weappa. Dear sister of Edith Schmidt (Peter) She was predeceased by an infant daughter Angelika Miner.

Muppets Most Wanted — Rated PG — 3 1/2 stars out of 5

So what if I saw “Muppets Most Wanted”? I will admit that Fozzy Bear is a friend of mine and he had nothing to do with the Goldilocks incident. I was afraid this movie was about that case, or worse they dug up more evidence from when the Muppets took Manhattan in 1984, but no, this is an all-new, exciting motion picture.

When my eyes flash open in the morning, (They do “flash” open. None of this slow leisurely awakening for me!) A deluge of thoughts pour out. It’s as if, while sleeping, all these thoughts have been dammed up, just waiting for the opportunity to get out there in my conscious world.

Today, as I lurched from sleep, I was already considering the events recently past and the day ahead. There’s no yawning and stretching, no snooze alarm, no snuggling back under the covers or otherwise transitioning into the day. It’s full tilt awareness with a sense of urgency that grabs my body and mind from the sound slumber of a moment before.
