Gas for $1.99 – are they out of their minds?
Not in North Stafford where the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas fell below $2 on Tuesday. That’s a drop considering six months ago the price for the same was $3.55 in the same neighborhood, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Fuel Price Finder.
Police arrested a man they say broke into a house in Woodbridge’s River Oaks neighborhood and tried to rape a woman.

Power lines will be buried along Route 1 in the northern section of Woodbridge as planned.
An effort mounted by Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland, and seconded by newly elected Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson, to defund the $12 million project to bury power lines on a 1.5 mile stretch of Route 1 failed to pass the Prince William County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to prepare for a day-long storm tomorrow that could make driving hazardous in northern Virginia. Drivers are asked to monitor weather forecasts today, and consider teleworking or delaying travel tomorrow. Drivers are also asked to plan for a longer than normal commute, with snow predicted in the morning and hazardous sleet and freezing rain beginning in the afternoon.
Wendy Maurer planned to file her paperwork on Monday to run for the office of Rock Hill District Supervisor.
A Republican small business owner and member of Stafford’s Economic Development Authority, Maurer has long been active in the Stafford community. She seeks to replace Cord Sterling, who announced he would not seek reelection in November after accepting a new job as a staffer in the U.S. Senate.
A new office space for Prince William County’s newest Supervisor could cost nearly $220,000.
Employees from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office moved from the Prince William County Judicial Center into the old Brentville District Supervisors office inside the Old Manassas Courthouse at 9248 Lee Avenue. Now county officials are shopping for new office space that will house newly Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson and her staff. Lawson will complete the term for Covington, who stepped down from the Board of Supervisors to become a judge.
One of the biggest challenges any local government faces is how to prioritize spending with limited resources. Localities have to strike the right balance between paying for the core services of government and allowing families to keep more of their hard earned money. Every dollar spent should be debated and evaluated against other expenses.
In Prince William County, we have many high priorities facing the Board of County Supervisors. Each year, our classrooms become more and more crowded, we continue to struggle to hire enough police officers and firefighters, our social services seem to be at a breaking point, and too many people sit on roads that are at the brink of capacity.
