Updated power outage numbers from Dominion and NOVEC. 

Dominion has 54 customers out in Prince William County. NOVEC has 14 customers out in Prince William County.

The potential construction of a 230kBV transmission power line and substation in Haymarket has caused controversy and concern for Prince William County residents.

The project, overseen by Dominion Power, will help generate enough power for an incoming data center, although County officials would not confirm if Amazon would operate the data center.

Two lawmakers in Virginia – Senator Donald McEachin (D-Richmond) and Delegate Michael Futrell (D-Woodbridge) – spoke at the General Assembly in Richmond last week about House Bill 2393.

The proposed bill could lead to the requirement for some police officers to wear body cameras.

Logan Kurtz, a Manassas Park resident, received an award from Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe for an essay she wrote for the “If I Were Mayor” writing contest. The contest was hosted by the Virginia Municipal League. Kurtz, a seventh-grader at Manassas Park Middle School, was one of eight regional winners across Virginia.

Kurtz and the other contest winners were presented with the essay award on January 28 in Richmond at the Lecture Hall of the Library of Virginia.

Former Poet Laureate of Virginia Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda and former Daily Press Poet Laureate Bill Glose will present “Poets Laureate on Art and War” at Osbourn Park High School, 8909 Euclid Ave., Manassas, on Saturday, February 14, from 1 p.m. to 3: p.m.

Appealing to lovers of the arts, Kreiter-Foronda’s readings and presentation will come from her latest book, The Embrace, and focus on the art of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Glose will feature his current book, Half a Man, and focus on his life as a paratrooper and combat platoon leader in the Gulf War.

A driver and three children were taken to a hospital after being in a car crash in Stafford County.

The crash, reported as a head-on collision about 1 p.m. on Sunday, occurred in the 3600 block of Jefferson Davis Highway just south of the Quantico Corporate Center at Boswell’s Corner.
