Snowfall is slowing or stopping across the 14-county Fredericksburg District, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are making progress clearing roads in the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, and the Fredericksburg area. 

Road conditions vary greatly across the District depending on the amount of snow accumulation. To check real-time road conditions in a specific area of Virginia, motorists can visit 511Virginia.org, call 511, or download VDOT’s free mobile 511 app.

Occoquan Supervisor Michael May is hosting a meeting tonight to discuss the upcoming Central District Police Station and Bacon Race Fire Station projects in Prince William County.

“Both of these projects are projects we’ve tried to fund for a number of years. As the community has grown, 43% in 10 years, obviously the demands on infrastructure have increased,” said May.


Obituaries

Major Angela M Erale, USA, of Montclair, VA, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, died in New Mexico on February 14, 2015. She was 33 years old.
Angela’s sudden passing is a blow not only to her family but also to the United States Army in which she so faithfully served. Angela was a veteran of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. She was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, and numerous other awards.

Angela was born in Mobile, Alabama, and grew up in Montclair, VA. She attended Hylton High School and graduated with the class of 1999. After graduating with a degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004, Angela screened for and was accepted into the Army Officer Candidate School in Ft. Benning, GA, and graduated in 2005.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is considering increasing the ticket fares by 4%, which riders could see in place by this July.

In addition to the 4% fare increase, the Step Up tickets offered by the VRE would go from $3 to $5.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area, with snow projected to begin late tonight, but there’s been no projection on the potential accumulation as of right now, as part of the alert.

The Regional Landfill’s new “Pay As You Throw” program provides customers with many options, allowing residents to only pay for how much they use the landfill. Customers have the option of paying a one-time fee for a visit, purchasing a coupon book for multiple visits or buying a yearly, unlimited pass.
