Disabilities Act anniversary celebration planned in Manassas

Good morning – July 26, 1990 brought us the Americans with Disabilities Act, commonly referred to as the ADA. Please join the Independence Empowerment Center and a host of partners on Saturday, July 26 for the 25th anniversary celebration!

There will be a silent action, games for the children, and visits with service dogs. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and greet our hard-working advocacy groups and learn how to support them in their continuing efforts to help people with disabilities, of all ages remain independent in their own communities.

Woman flees captor on I-95 in Dale City

Virginia State Police were called to mile marker 155 on I-95 in Dale City to search for an abducted woman yesterday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers were sent to search for the suspect, 28-year old Henrico County man Aaron Berg, and the 18-year old female victim from Prince Edward County.

Closures on Route 28 to continue this weekend in Bristow

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is continuing work on the $70 million Route 28 widening project this weekend on Friday and Sunday evening.

The work will take place between Aden Road and Battalion Square, according to VDOT, and Route 28 will be closed in both directions as crews work on storm sewer lines.

Manassas City police responded to a burglary in progress on Rolling Road on July 12.

According to Manassas City police, a witness told officers that she was checking on a neighbor’s home when she saw an unknown individual standing in the kitchen.

Two men charged following vehicle fire in Triangle

Prince William fire and rescue were called to a vehicle fire on a service road near Possum Point Road in Triangle.

According to the Prince William Fire Marshal’s Office, responders from the Dumfries Triangle Volunteer Fire Department found a BMW on blocks on fire at the scene on the afternoon of June 6.

Manassas, Stafford on short list for new vets health center

This year the Virginia General Assembly passed two bills that called for the building of two new veteran’s care centers in the state – one in Northern Virginia and one in Hampton Roads.

Currently, there are two existing veteran’s care centers in Virginia – the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke and the Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond.

Quantico’s to undergo change of command tomorrow

Colonel David Maxwell will hand over his post as commanding officer at Quantico Marine Corps Base tomorrow.

Maxwell will be passing on the post to Colonel Joseph Murray at a ceremony tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Little Hall.
