Every person deserves to feel loved, respected, and valued. Simply for being here. But not every person has that opportunity. On August 22, one area couple, Sultana and John Jones, will show that love to some of those forgotten due to circumstance.


Obituaries

Leonardo Macarse Rivera, Jr., 62, passed away on July 13, 2015 in his hometown of Iloilo City, Philippines.

Leonardo, more familiarly known as “Leo” or “Boy” to his Filipino family and friends, moved to the United States in 1977, settling in Houston, Texas where he worked as a Respiratory Therapist at St. Luke’s and Texas Children’s Hospital. Highly respected in his profession, Leo enjoyed being able to work with people and especially the children. Outside of work, Leo displayed his athleticism, playing on basketball and softball leagues in the Filipino community.


Good morning  – The General Heiser Boys and Girls Club in Dumfries is looking for a STEM coordinator for their new Pepco STEM Club. This exciting program will ignite the intellect and imagination of children so they can prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. · Youth for Tomorrow in Bristow is looking for volunteers to help with weekend field trips for the kids visiting all the wonderful museums and historical sites. They also are looking for volunteer mentors as well. Both of these program offer the kids practical experience, build their confidence and support as they go through life’s challenges.
