A 5K walk in Prince William County will raise money for the homeless.
The 5th-annual IWALK for ACTS is a free family festival to be held in Woodbridge on October 17.

Ten students from local high schools have placed as finalists in the Nature Visions Photo Expo (NVPE) Student Photography contest and will receive a $50 gift card fromDistrict Camera, of Burke, Va.
The 10 finalists were chosen out of more than 60 submissions, representing schools from Northern Virginia and Maryland.

Attempted Malicious Wounding – On September 19th at 2:18PM, officers responded to the 3100 block of Chesapeake Dr in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a fight with weapons. The victim, a 24 year old woman of Dumfries, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in verbal altercation in front of the apartment complex building in the above area. During the encounter, the accused pulled out a knife and advanced towards the victim in a threatening manner. Other witnesses to the incident were able to separate both parties while police were contacted. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without further incident.
Gar-Field High School Receives Authorization to Offer the IB’s Newest Programme
Prince William County Public Schools has received notification from the International Baccalaureate Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, that Gar-Field Senior High School has been fully authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme.
A Woodbridge Catholic high school is starting their own radio station.
Saint John Paul the Great High School, located on 17700 Dominican Drive in Woodbridge, will be launching their FM radio channel – 106.3 JPN – November 1, according to the school’s spokeswoman Jennifer Cole.
Joan Iona (Risser) Ritts, 86, of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away Wednesday, September 16th at Westminster of Lake Ridge of congestive heart failure.
Joan was born on July 15th 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts to Fredrick Samuel Risser and Myrtle Angeline (Elderkin) Risser. Joan grew up in the Boston area with brother, James, and graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.
The Prince William County Safe Schools Advisory Council held their first meeting of the 2015-2016 school year on Monday Sept 14.
In accordance with the bylaws they voted to select a new chair and vice chair.
Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-10th) today announced an October 1 deadline for students interested in applying for a nomination by the 10th District Service Academy Advisory Board to one of the nation’s military academies for the Class of 2020.
Students seeking a nomination have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1 to have an application into Comstock’s office in Sterling.
