Legendary singer Tony Bennett and award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth will headline the University of Mary Washington Philharmonic’s 2016-17 season. The announcement was made at a special event for the Friends of the UMW Philharmonic on Friday, June 17.
Bennett will perform for the holiday concert on Friday, Dec. 9, in Dodd Auditorium. Winner of 17 Grammy Awards and seven Emmys, the celebrated singer has sold millions of albums worldwide. A jazz vocalist, Bennett recorded his first hit, “Because of You,” in 1951 and made a career singing standards, including his signature song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” His career waned in the 1960s with the popularity of rock music, but rallied again in the 1990s. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 24 to the general public, Oct. 10 to Friends of the Philharmonic.
Robert C. Goodman, who we all affectionately knew as “Chris”, was born on July 26. 1952, in Dallas, Texas. after a short but very intense battle, God released Chris from his suffering on June 16, 2016.
Chris was well known and respected as the head of Capital Drilling, Inc., one of the most reputable drilling and blasting companies in the Northern Virginia area. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at 2 PM at Hall Funeral Home, 140 South Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, VA 20132.
There have been 11 homicides in Prince William County in 2016.
That’s one more murder in the county than was reported in all of 2015.
Dumfries town officials on Tuesday could vote to ban BB and other pneumatic guns.
The Town Council will consider an update to a provision in the town code the deals with such pneumatic guns.
Three people were rescued from the Rappahannock River late Sunday night.
Fire crews from Fredericksburg and Stafford County found three people stranded on a rock at 9:25 p.m. The family of two adults and a child used a cell phone to call for help.
