Stafford, VA. On February 1, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m. Deputy B.U. Demirci was off-duty. He was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 1 in his personal vehicle when he observed a dark-colored sedan make a U-turn prior to the Aquia Town Center entrance. While completing the turn the sedan struck the driver’s side of a silver van causing significant damage to both vehicles. (more…)

On January 17, 2017 at approximately 2:26 p.m. Deputy J.A. Mangan responded to a reported vandalism that had occurred at the 7-Eleven on Garrisonville Road. The victim explained she was pumping gas and a male subject approached her car and stated that she had stolen his cell phone.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — The driver of a dump truck lost control of his rig after the breaks went out while traveling down Route 123 south from Fairfax County, crossing the Occoquan River into Prince William.
Thomas Charles Vrtis of Woodbridge, Virginia (formerly of St. Charles, Illinois) passed away at home on January 28, 2017. He was 87.
Tom was born on December 24, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Charles and Anna (Kucera) Vrtis. He grew up in La Grange, Illinois, with seven brothers and sisters. After completing his elementary education at St. Francis Xavier School in La Grange and his high school education at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Tom attended Loyola University of Chicago and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1951. Following college, he served two years in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant, and was stationed in Germany as part of the post-WWII allied occupation forces. After returning home, Tom joined the accounting firm Arthur Andersen, which would be the first stop in his lifelong work as an accountant in the Chicagoland area. (more…)
