STAFFORD, Va. — A new funding mechanism is in place to save two lakeside dams.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted 7-0 for the Lake Arrowhead Service District. The body will be in charge of overseeing a county-issued loan of at least as $540,000 to repair two dams that hold back waters in two lakes — Big, and Little Lake Arrowhead — neglected since 2005 when the community’s property owners association disbanded.

Hello from your state capitol in Richmond. As of February 3rd, the House has completed 24 of the 45 days of the 2017 session. On Sunday, February 5th, the committees responsible for the budget bills unveiled their complete proposals. Two important deadlines are happening this week. One of the deadlines is called “Crossover” the deadline with which each chamber must complete work on bills that originated in their chamber. Thursday the House will vote on their version of the budget.

From Prince William police: 

Sexual Assault Investigation – On February 2 at 8:40PM, detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit responded to investigate a sexual assault which occurred at a home in Woodbridge (22193) earlier that evening. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 6-year-old girl, was inappropriately touched by the accused, identified as a family member. The victim disclosed the incident to another family member who immediately notified police. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Politics

The last week of January was especially busy as the General Assembly approached February 7th – Crossover – the day we are required to complete all work on bills originating in our chamber. The bills saved for last usually involve the hardest issues to resolve.

Out of the 40 bills I introduced twenty-two have passed the Senate or are poised for passage before Crossover.

From Stafford sheriff’s office: 

On November 29, 2016, Deputy J.J. Kreider and Sergeant E.D. Chinault responded to larceny calls at Panera Bread locations at 24 South Gateway Drive and 1005 Stafford Marketplace, respectively. In both instances, the victims advised their wallets were stolen and a credit card was used at nearby Target stores.

On February 5, 2017, at approximately 4:20 p.m. Deputy D.C. Reed responded to a disturbance at Fatty’s Crab House located at 225 Garrisonville Road. An employee advised that a male subject had entered the business carrying an alcoholic beverage, and was asked to leave.
