From a Stafford County Spokesperson:

Two Stafford County public service events will run concurrently on Saturday, April 8th. The Spring Shredding Event sponsored by Stafford County Crime Solvers will be held from 8:00 AM – Noon at the Humphrey Building (Public Safety Facility) located at 1225 Courthouse Road. A Rabies Clinic will also be held in the parking lot of the Gordon Government Center located at 1300 Courthouse Road. The clinic will begin at 8:30 AM and continue until noon.

From Stafford County Sheriff’s Office:

On March 28, 2017, at  1:22 p.m., Deputy J.R. Scott was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 when he observed a gray Toyota Tundra maneuvering quickly between three lanes of heavy traffic. The driver of the Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed and neglected to use his turn signal while changing lanes.

Mercedes Hermilia Renteria Vda De Ruiz, age 92, of Woodbridge, VA passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on April 16, 1924 in Piura, Peru the daughter of the late Jose Mercedes Renteria Correa and Rosa Julia Seminario. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Banor Ruiz. She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Woodbridge.

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called Richard L. Hendershot peacefully home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born July 25, 1953, in Akron, Ohio, and has been a long-time resident of Manassas, Virginia. Richard “Rick” graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1971, and later graduated from Liberty University. He became an ordained minister and a Certified Public Accountant, opening his firm in 1995.

Rick is survived by his devoted and loving wife Serena Hendershot (Warrenton, VA). He was preceded in death by Elizabeth, with whom he had one son. He leaves behind their son James Hendershot (Stanley VA), his daughter-in-law Robin, and three grandchildren, Collin, Evan, and Logan and his three stepchildren, Morgan, Lauren, and Alex Curtis (FL).

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William County is denied one of two grant applications sought to fund a new commuter parking garage slated to be built next to a new Potomac Nationals baseball stadium in Woodbridge.

The county sought $5 million from Virginia’s Transportation Opportunity Fund to build a garage that would be used on weekdays by commuters, and on nights and weekends by baseball fans, and those attending other events at a proposed $35 million, 6,000-seat baseball stadium at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center next to Wegmans.

Steven Jeffrey Rein, age 51, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home in Manassas, VA.

He was born on September 16, 1965 San Raphel, CA to Robert Joseph Rein and Mary Ellen (Bollinger) Rein. Mr. Rein was a hard worker and Expert Electrician working at Dominion Water and owner of Absolute Electronic Services. He enjoyed scuba diving, golfing and skiing. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Darlene Marie Strickland, age 80, of Strasburg, VA, formerly of Lorton, VA, passed away on March 29, 2017. Beloved wife of more than 60 years to Donald E. Strickland, (Msgt, USA, Ret.). Loving mother of Wyatt Strickland (Tamsen) of Front Royal, VA, Lorraine Schneider of Lorton, VA, Jeffrey Strickland (Tina) of Marshall, VA, and Robert Strickland of Lorton, VA. Cherished grandmother of Ashley Artone (Thomas), Jessalyn Schneider (Andrew Babione), Jason Strickland (Caitlin), Loriann Schneider, and Gregory Strickland. Greatgrandmother of Aubree Artone. Mother – In – Law of William Schneider who is the father of Jesslyn and Loriann. Also survived by a dear family friend Matthew White. Darlene was predeceased by her parents, and a brother Carl Keith Robertson.

Darlene proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1955-1956. Later she worked for the Federal Government as a secretary for over 25 years. Darlene enjoyed taking walks, playing her games, and giving comfort to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Her laughter warmed your heart and spirit touched your soul.
