STAFFORD — The future of getting around Stafford County could lay on the trail.

County officials held two public workshops in late August to educate residents on their plans to expand the bike and pedestrian facilities. The current bike and pedestrian facilities are located on Deacon Road, Courthouse Road and next to the Rappahannock River. They asked for input on where to put future Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities, drawing up a plan to use as a guide to future improvements.

Labor Day this past Monday was a fitting reminder for us to work harder to not only honor working people in the United States and Virginia but to strengthen our economy and supports for employees.  Virginia has a long way to go. 

Last week Oxfam America released a study that found that Virginia ranked #51 out of 51 as the best state to be an employee – yes, dead last.  This included rankings of #48 in worker protections, #49 in the right to organize, and #51 in wage policies.   This is troubling news.

A new grassroots organization targeting local communities, Under Her, will launch efforts to support women in need by collecting personal items, in particular, bras and feminine products, at the inaugural “Packing Her Bag, Pushing Her Thru” social to be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Dumfries Community Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Donations can be dropped off anytime during the social.

MANASSAS — Master police officer TJ Rodriquez spoke to students Tuesday about making an impact on the community and finding a purpose.

Drawing from his 20 years of experience in law enforcement, Rodriquez reflected on shifts in his career and life that led to his current position training new recruits for the Manassas City Police Department. He noted that life circumstances may change, but passion can always be present.

From Manassas police: 

On August 31 and September 1, 2018, detectives of the Manassas City Police Department identified and arrested three subjects in connection with the murder of Reynaldo Eliazar Araujo.  Terrance Tyrese Martin, an 18-year-old resident of Manassas, Ebelin Jojana Lopez, a 19-year-old resident of Manassas, and Seni JIMENEZ BLANCO, a 19-year-old resident of Manassas Park, have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in
