Steve Smith, MD, has been named president and chief operating officer for Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center and Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center. Most recently, Smith served as vice president of medical affairs for the health system.

Armed Robbery – On August 27 at 2:25AM, officers responded to the Babylon Cafe located at 3081 Golansky Blvd in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a robbery. An employee reported to police that he was approached by two unknown masked men, one armed with a handgun, when he opened the back door to the business. The suspects ordered the employee back into the business where they forced him to open a safe. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money before tying the employee to a chair and fleeing the business. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 searched for the area for the suspects who were not located.

She reported this week that, since a decision made by China earlier this year to stop accepting used plastics for recycling, that waste has been piling up at the local landfill.
MANASSAS — A new Mediterranean restaurant called Strofi is coming to Manassas. It will open in the Shops at Signal Hill on Liberia Avenue, across from Aldi.
Strofi owners Lidiia and Benan Aksoylu are a married couple with a desire to bring authentic Mediterranean food to Manassas. Benan is Turkish and explained that gyro, while typically seen in Greek restaurants here in the U.S., has its roots in a popular Turkish street food known as döner. He and Lidiia want to bring that same authentic dish to Manassas.

STAFFORD — State officials are moving ahead with development at Widewater State Park.
Around since 2006, the park makes up most of a peninsula between the Potomac River and Aquia Creek. State Senator Scott Surovell (D-36, Fairfax, Stafford, Woodbridge) said that it was important to fund new staff positions at the park. The fight for funding was also led, in the past by former Delegate, now Stafford County Supervisor Mark Dudenhefer.
