Garland (Clyde) Patton, age 87 of Manassas, Virginia passed away on April 10, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was a member of the Army 82nd Airborne, serving in the Korean War. He retired from Fruit Growers Express. He enjoyed playing the guitar, bluegrass music, golf, fishing and spending time with his family.

MANASSAS — When our student reporter, Malachi, interviewed Manassas Fire Chief Rob Clemons, he learned Clemons watched the TV show “Emergency” every week, “religiously.”

The 1970’s drama chronicled the lives of paramedics and firefighters in the Los Angeles area.


DALE CITY — On April 9, detectives from the Prince William County Police Department Special Victims Unit concluded an investigation into a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence in Dale City on March 31.

An investigation revealed the victim, a 28-year-old woman, was sexually assaulted by the accused, a family member, on that date.

CW4 (Retired) Michael Brian Coy, 64, lost his battle with Alzheimer’s and went home to be with our Lord on December 10, 2018. Michael was born in Ontario, California, and his hometown was Canton, Ohio. He was a resident of Dale City, Virginia.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kay Lynn Coy. Their much-loved children are Reverend Jessica A. Johnson and her husband, 1SG (Retired) Kevin M. Johnson, and Major Christopher M. Coy and his wife, Heather N. Coy, OTR. His three surviving grandchildren are Ivan J. Coy, Blake C. Johnson, and Cody H. Johnson. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Carrie A. Johnson.

WOODBRIDGE — There was an uncommon display of solidarity on the Prince William County School Board this year: Its proposed fiscal year 2020 budget was passed unanimously with little debate.

Prince William County School Board Chairman At-large Dr. Babur Lateef presented its 2020 budget to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, which fund the schools with an annual automatic budget transfer of 57% of its total budget.

STAFFORD — Property owners in Stafford County could see a $120 increase in their property tax if some county leaders have their way April 16.

That’s when the Stafford County Board of Supervisors is set to approve its fiscal year 2020 tax rate. Currently set at .99 cents per every $100 of assessed property value, the proposed rate is $1.03 per every $100.


LAKE RIDGE — Residents are going to get a look more than 30 years into the past with the opening of a buried time capsule.

The plaque noting the capsule buried at Tackett’s Mill Center, on May 29, 1969, states that day was the day Lake Ridge was established. Today, the neighborhood of homes and shops spans the five-mile distance of Old Bridge Road between Interstate 95 and Prince William Parkway
