WOODBRIDGE – OmniRide is introducing new ways for travelers to connect with Virginia Railway Express, implementing a service change for all routes, and launching a rebuilt website this month.

OmniRide will begin operating two free temporary shuttle services on Tuesday, May 28, to help commuters impacted by Metro’s decision to close six Blue and Yellow Line Metro stations in Northern Virginia for the summer.


DUMFRIES – On Tuesday, May 21, the Dumfries Town Council adopted the Town’s Fiscal Plan for 2020 and the Capital Improvement Plan for 2020 to 2024.

The $4.9 million operating budget, which maintains current tax rates, reflects the strategic goals of the Town with investments made in the areas of Public Safety, Economic Vitality, Sustainability & Infrastructure and Well-Managed Government.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced the Tobacco-Free Youth Act on Monday, May 20, following which he gave a speech discussing the act. He was joined in the introduction by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

The act would raise the nationwide minimum age to buy all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and vaping devices, from 18 to 21.

STAFFORD – The Stafford County Democratic Committee will hold an nominating caucus on June 1 between 12:30 and 4 p.m.

The caucus will be held at the Rowser Building, Room B, 1739 Jefferson Davis Highway in Stafford for the purpose of nominating candidates for Griffis-Widewater Supervisor, Rock Hill Supervisor, George Washington Supervisor, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Commissioner of Revenue, Sheriff, and Treasurer.

MANASSAS – Novant Health UVA Health System’s Prince William Medical Center and Haymarket Medical Center were both awarded ‘A’ safety grades.

These grades were determined by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit committed to improving health care quality and safety, during their spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

STAFFORD — Students called Stafford’s antiquated two-lane roads dangerous as they remembered their friend, a 17-year-old girl who died behind the wheel of her car on her birthday.

Helen Wang, Colonial Forge High School student, was hit and killed after a picnic with her friends on her 17th birthday on May 16. She was leaving the Abel Lake Boat Ramp, where she met her friends for an afternoon at the reservoir.
