RICHMOND — Despite a 24-hour vigil by advocates of the Equal Rights Amendment, House Republicans refused to allow a vote on ratifying the measure Thursday — officially killing the ERA for the year.

The defeat comes to the dismay of many who thought Virginia would be the 38th state to ratify the amendment, potentially adding it to the U.S. Constitution. Experts disagree whether the ERA can be ratified because the deadline to do so has passed.

GAINESVILLE — (Press release) Earlier this month, Prince William County Supervisor Pete Candland delivered an email to supporters announcing his intent to seek re-election as the Supervisor to the Gainesville Magisterial District in the upcoming 2019 elections.

In his email, Candland said, “Representing you and the families of the Gainesville District on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors has been one of the greatest honors of my life.  When you elected me in 2011, I committed to you that I would fight to keep taxes as low as possible and ensure that taxpayer funds were focused on the core responsibilities of government: transportation, public safety, and education.”


DALE CITY — (Press release) Today, Don Shaw declared his candidacy for the Neabsco Supervisor position, left vacant due to the passing of long-time Neabsco District Supervisor John Jenkins.

The Prince William County Democratic Committee has organized a caucus to be run February 24, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Dale City Volunteer Fire Department Station 13 at 13511 Hillendale Drive in Dale City.


DALE CITY — (Press Release) In accordance with state law, the Prince William County Democratic Committee has set up a process to pick its nominee for a Special Election to take place on April 9 in the Neabsco District.

The Board of County Supervisors had originally voted for an April 2 Election, after the passing of Neabsco District Supervisor John Jenkins.
