This letter to the editor was sent to us by Mark Scheufler, a Prince William County resident. All of the letters we’ve posted by him all have to do with improving mobility around our region. This latest letter comes as the Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on improving Interstate 95 statewide, at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg from 6 to 8 p.m.
Getting between Richmond and Washington, D.C.c can be difficult with very unpredictable travel times, especially on weekends in the summer. The Commonwealth of Virginia is building a significant number of projects along I-95 in the Fredericksburg area that will improve traffic flow over the Rappahannock River.
Editors note: “People on the Move” is a post which recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Virginia natives as they make their way in the world.

FREDERICKSBURG — When it comes to easing traffic congestion around Fredericksburg, city officials are looking to high-speed rail as a possible solution.
A state high-speed rail study currently underway is looking at three possible locations for the rails in and around the Fredericksburg area. One alternative would result in a new two-track freight bypass going to the east of Fredericksburg; while another one alternative would add a third track through Fredericksburg on the east side of the existing tracks. A third would be to not add any tracks through Fredericksburg but would include various improvements to crossings, signals, and safety systems.
MANASSAS — A fire broke out at Harris Pavilion, a large gathering space in Downtown Manassas used for everything from farmers markets in the summer to ice skating in winter.
City officials tell us:
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Law enforcement officers across Virginia are in the middle of a mental health crisis.
More and more, police are called to deal with someone with a mental disorder. They can be suicidal or a threat to a friend or family member.
DUMFRIES — Police have identified the victim in Saturday night’s shooting in Williamstown in Dumfries.
This is the second homicide case in the last month where police have no suspect.
