STAFFORD COUNTY — Fire crews raced to the 1300 block of Westview Drive to find a house on fire.
Crews were called at 4:59 a.m. Sunday to a single-story home in the Brookfield section of Stafford County, near Town and Country Drive.
MANASSAS — With Vice Mayor Ken Elston resigning, the position is open for a resident of Manassas to fill before a special election can be held in November.
In May, Elston notified the public of his official resignation from City Council effective at the end of July 2019.

FREDERICKSBURG — Fredericksburg baseball fans are one step closer to seeing Minor League Baseball in their city — construction on the new stadium is set to begin in July.
Currently, the site stands dormant with rocks, trees, dirt, and even a local business sign that needs to be excavated before construction can begin.

He was born on February 26, 1936 in Paris, Virginia. After 24 years of service, he retired as a Battalion Chief of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. He enjoyed relaxing at his cabin; being outdoors, fishing, farming and spending time with his grandkids and family.

James Russell “Jack” Carwile, Jr, age 76, of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on June 28, 2019. Beloved husband of over 42 years to the late Anne Davidson Carwile. Jack was a teacher with the Alexandria City School System for 34 years. He enjoyed his amateur radio and was a member of the Woodbridge Wireless (WWI). In his free time, he liked building and operating model planes; both with and without engines. He also went to the shooting range with his buddy whenever he could. His passion in life was his grandchildren.
