County Tourism Director Ann Marie Maher says it starts with bringing more travel sports teams to the region.

“Our location is perfect because we’re right in the middle of the East Coast,” Maher said. “According to the Sports Travel and Events Association, 52% of all sports tourism happens in the southeastern region of the U.S.”

BRISTOW — Nashville singer-songwriter Irene Kelley will be performing a bluegrass concert to benefit the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia’s Jubilee Campaign to build a new monastery.

The concert is on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at Youth for Tomorrow’s Peterson Chapel (11835 Hazel Circle Drive, Bristow).

Rep. Rob Wittman(R-1st District) joined Stafford County Aquia District Supervisor Cindy Shelton, and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam chief broadband advisor Evan Feinman, discuss the way ahead for getting broadband access to the underserved areas of Stafford County.

“Our job is to first make sure we have dollars at the federal level that will go into accelerating our investment in broadband. We have $600 million allocated to build out this system. The total cost of building out broadband in the U.S., it’s about $80 billion. This is not going to be the panacea that folks think it will be,” Wittman said.
