Since 2012, it’s been the intention that after a new Anne E. Moncure Elementary School was built and opened (it did last month) the old school and the property on which it sits would be conveyed from the school division to the county government.
Now it has, but that deal was inked in an era when retail and commercial development around the now-abandoned school on Route 610 was booming. Today, when questions swirl over whether or not a new movie theater will ever be built at The Garrison, that boom time seems so long ago.
The Potomac Nationals will extend their lease at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium for 2020.
The move comes after the team said it played its final home game in Woodbridge on Thursday, August 29.

Last night, a motorcyclist was killed at milepost 160 on Interstate 95. He was traveling southbound on the highway near Occoquan at 7:34 p.m. The victim’s name, nor the details of the crash have been released.

STAFFORD – (Press Release) Michael Coney wasn’t sure if the ticket in his hand was a winner or not. He was new to the Virginia Lottery’s Print ‘n Play Rolling Jackpot game and hadn’t yet got the hang of it. Turns out, the Stafford County man had just won a jackpot worth $81,924.
He bought his winning ticket at I-95 Citgo, located at 5416 Jefferson Davis Highway in Spotsylvania.

WOODBRIDGE – People interested in playing and learning about pickleball should attend the exhibition at the Chili Cook-off and Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The exhibition is taking place at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center.
The two new events come as the town’s annual spring craft show has steadily been losing money for the past six years. It’s one of two craft shows (spring and fall) that the town relies on to bring in tourists, and cash to town coffers to pay for capital projects.
From its high of about $54,000 in 2013, net revenue form the spring craft fair has dropped this year to $50,214. It was the final spring craft show for the town.
