They don’t often vote together on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, but the issue of preserving the Rural Crescent brought them together Monday at Stonewall Jackson Senior High School.

Supervisors Jeanine Lawson (R-Brentsville), Frank Principi (D-Woodbridge), and Peter Candland (R-Gainesville) denounced a plan by county staff to create a transition ribbon, where about 10,000 new homes could be built along the boundary of the Rural Crescent.

Officials are working to purchase land for the future right-of-way for an expansion of Route 1 at Courthouse Road. But the cost is on the rise due to inflation, county officials said.

Last year, the budgeted cost was about $14 million. Now it’s increased to they’ve doubled, at $18.7 million.

With nearly 90,000 aircraft that fly in and out of the Manassas Regional Airport, which sits on nearly 1,000 acres of land, injecting some $375 million into the local economy each year, officials there say it’s time for the state’s only commuter railroad to recognize its size.

The airport’s operations board has asked Virginia Railway Express to remove the “Broad Run” portion of the name of the commuter railroad station, leaving only the airport’s name, dubbing it “Manassas Airport Station.”

In addition to our efforts in the General Assembly, some issues must be solved by the Congress and surprise medical billing is one of those issues. When members of Congress return to Washington in a few days, I believe that they should take immediate action to work on common-sense legislation that will resolve the problem of surprise medical billing.

Anyone who has been impacted by a surprise medical bill—and that’s roughly 57% percent of all Americans, according to a University of Chicago, study understands the heavy financial toll that was endured. Individuals who have received medical treatment weeks or months earlier should not be confronted with surprise medical bills which require payment for costs they assumed would be covered by their insurance company.

HAYMARKET — The Battlefield High School (BHS) Bobcat varsity football team of Haymarket will kick off its first annual Military Appreciation Football Game on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

This event, presented by BHS Athletic Booster Club and sponsored by Honor Brewing Co. of Manassas, will take place at Battlefield High School at 15000 Graduation Drive.
