Haymarket is welcoming five non-incumbent candidates to their town council after the Tuesday, May 19, election, including Kenneth Luersen who will be mayor.
Luersen beat out incumbent David Leake by 13 points. Leake has served as mayor since 2012.
Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta ran unopposed and will keep his seat.
This will be Porta’s sixth term as Occoquan’s mayor. He served in this position from 2006 to 2014. He ran again in 2018 and won.
After a staff member tests positive for Coronavirus, the Rappahannock Area Health District will temporarily reduce clinical services.
From May 19, 2020, to May 28, 2020, RAHD will not be offering in-person clinical services. This includes maternity care, treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, and family planning services, which will be delivered via telemedicine. Patrick Levi Gilkerson who was born in Virginia on February 26, 1970 unexpectedly left us on May 11, 2020. He was an avid hunter and a big Washington Redskins fan.
He worked in the Heating and Air Conditioning business for over 25 years. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his mother, Freda Gilkerson and his sister Jenn Powell and her husband Scott along with their children Nolan and Sydney. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Dawn Davis. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Gilkerson. Patrick will be interred at Stafford Memorial Park.

Construction on road projects could spell headaches for Interstate 95 travelers this week.
In Fredericksburg, construction crews continue to build the new Route 652 overpass, which will be located between Interstate 95: Exit 133 and Exit 136, in Stafford County, as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project , according to Darragh Frye of VDOT Virginia. Crews are currently building the 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 to the vicinity of Exit 133. Construction on the $565 million project began in July 2019.
