Virginia crossed a threshold in 2018: It was the first time people drove more miles on state roads and highways but gas tax revenues collected at the pump fell.
They were down $48 million, down from about $700 million collected annual gas tax revenues.
The effort to add a bring a Liberty Place to Downtown Fredericksburg, a building that will house new retail and restaurants, to include a new Mellow Mushroom pizzeria, will mean some traffic disruptions in the city. A press release states:
Motorists are advised of upcoming work zones and traffic pattern changes in the 600 block of William Street (between Douglas and Winchester Streets) associated with construction of the new Liberty Place development. On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 10 and 11, the right thru-lane and right side parking lane will be closed to traffic to facilitate the installation of new utilities under the roadway.
City leaders on Monday night authorized the city manager to install up to 10 cameras at problem intersections in the city where drivers are known to run red lights.
Officials have not said where or when the new cameras will be installed. “Our goal here is to reduce driver behavior at the most troubled intersections,” said Manassas Police Chief Douglas Keen said.

Liria M. Vouzikas, of Woodbridge Virginia, passed Saturday, December 7, 2019. Liria, 79, was born April 28, 1940 in Greece before immigrating to the United States. Along with a career as a hair stylist, Liria loved antiques and her family.
