Prince William County invites you to attend a virtual information session regarding the Route 1 Renaming project on Feb. 24, 2021, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Since 2019, local jurisdictions in Northern Virginia have undertaken efforts to rename Route 1 as Richmond Highway. Realizing it was time for a change in Prince William County, in September 2020, the Board of County Supervisors approved a resolution to request that the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) change the name of Route 1 in Prince William County from Jefferson Davis Highway. On Nov. 24, 2020, CTB unanimously approved the request to rename Route 1 in Prince William County to Richmond Highway.

Manassas Park hires marketing firm, aims to brand itself as destination

Manassas Park is working on rebranding itself as a destination.

It’s part of the city’s new downtown development, where it is building a town center with a plan to create a signage and branding concept. The audience it hopes to reach: the rest of Northern Virginia.

Prince William County home sales up in January

The REALTOR Association of Prince William (PWAR) has gathered Prince William County’s most recent market statistics, generated by SmartCharts, an affiliate website of Showing Time. The market statistics are gathered through data provided by Bright MLS, which serves as the multiple listing service for Prince William County.

A total of 554 homes were sold in January 2021, a great increase of 33.2 percent compared to January 2020 at 416. The number of contracts pending saw another increase of 5.4 percent year-over-year, from 691 to 728.

The inaugural season for the Fredericksburg Nationals will feature 10 home stands hosting 60 home games and 10 road game series consisting of 60 games against teams in the newly formed Low-A East League.

The Minor League Baseball season will start on Tuesday, May 4, and end on Sunday, September 19. Series will be made up of six games from Tuesday to Sunday each week.

Scammer “spoofed” VSP phone number, dials residents, threatens arrests

The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division Headquarters has received roughly 50 phone calls today (Feb. 20) from individuals living in Northern Virginia and neighboring states inquiring about a phone call from a VSP “trooper.”

The scammer has “spoofed” a legitimate VSP phone number with a 276 area code so he can appear credible.

Chain-reaction crash on I-95 injures 4

Virginia State Police Senior Trooper R. Aldrich is investigating a chain-reaction crash in Spotsylvania County.

The crash occurred Friday, Feb. 19, at 3:05 p.m. on Interstate 95 at the 121 mile-marker, near Thornburg.
