Obituaries

Kaitlyn Faith Koman, 26, of Virginia Beach, went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2021.  Kaitlyn was born at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, to Cindy and Larry Kirk, on June 12, 1995.  She attended Heritage Christian School in Woodbridge, VA.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Pensacola Christian College.  She married Joshua Koman on June 17, 2017 in Woodbridge and was honored to be his Navy wife. Kaitlyn is preceded in death by her grandparents John Richards; and, Howard and Annabelle Kirk.  Kaitlyn is survived by her husband Joshua, brother Kile, parents Cindy and Larry Kirk, grandmother Anne Richards, and numerous aunts & uncles, and cousins.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent, in Kaitlyn’s honor, to Heritage Christian School, 14510 Spriggs Rd, Woodbridge VA, 22193.  The family of Kaitlyn wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Critical Care Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is pleased to announce Alice Tang, DO, MPH, MBA as its new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Tang joined Sentara Healthcare in 2017.

She was previously the Medical Director at Sentara Lake Ridge and co-director of the Stroke Program at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center before accepting this position.

Cops nab downtown Manassas prowler 

From Manassas police: On August 15, 2021, the Manassas City Police Department began investigating several property crimes that occurred in the Old Town area. During the overnight hours, on August 15, an unknown individual entered The Things I Love located at 9084 Center St and removed numerous items of value. That same night, items were stolen from a vehicle parked in the Candy Factory parking lot, and a citizen reported an attempted burglary at a residence in the 9500 Block of Main St. Additional similar incidents occurred in the weeks following.

More than 22,000 people looking forward to running in the Marine Corps Marathon will need to find something else to do that weekend or participate in a virtual event.

The Marine Corps Marathon today announced it canceled all events associated with the Marine Corps Marathon Weekend, Friday, October 29 to Sunday, October 31. That includes the signature 10K and 50K marathon events in Arlington, which draws tens of thousands of people each year from across the U.S. to our region.

Obituaries

Lorraine Edith Vitole of Woodbridge passed away peacefully on September 11th 2021 at the age of 92.  Born in New York to the late Frank and Mary Bowman (nee Miller).  Prior to retiring Lorraine worked for the Prince William County School district. Lorraine was  a memnber of the Red Hats, Fun Bunch, Catholic Woman’s club and the Lions Club. Lorraine was predeceased by her Husband Michael Frank vitole and her grandson Michael as well as three sisters and one brother.. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Jerelyn Condon and MaryMargaret Ballenger. Beloved grandmother to Nicole, Matthew, Brittany, Bridget, and Brandon. Lorraine was the Great Grandmother to Michaela and Dominic.
